Task: Child and youth facilities are important contact points for children from difficult social or family backgrounds. They offer support in education, leisure activities, and personal development. In times of crisis or closure, these services are discontinued, resulting in a loss of this important support.

 

Challenge: There is currently almost no digital access to child and youth facilities. This is a gap that urgently needs to be closed. Otherwise, important services such as homework help, leisure activities, and childcare are unavailable due to illness, closure, etc.

 

Solution: With my hood, we're creating a digital twin of our child and youth facilities that's accessible regardless of opening hours. We're also expanding the offerings to include tutoring, crisis counseling, a library, sports, and more.

 

Implementation: The app's eight rooms provide central access to educational and support services. With the support of specialist partners, these include crisis intervention and prevention support, as well as online counseling on addiction, violence, and mental illness. Educational offerings in the form of 2,000 curated e-media resources and targeted support in preparing for final exams such as the ESA (European Social Security Administration) or MSA (Mental Health and Social Care) make the app even more relevant to the development of children and young people. The sports and exercise offerings are rounded out by training and interactive videos presented by trained trainers. A user-friendly video function also allows children and young people to interact with the staff at their facility.

 

We successfully tested the current beta version of the app in three Hamburg facilities in 2024.
In 2025, we received a commitment from the German TV Lottery for the next three years to further develop the fully functional app.

Intended impact: my hood is low-threshold and contributes to promoting equal opportunities and educational equity. The app creates a safe space that helps children and young people fully develop their potential and shape their own futures.
